How does Strategic Hypnotherapy work with Procrastination?

If I was to talk with the client I would not have any trouble having the client detail to me how they are able to run a goal achievement process in other parts of their lives - and not procrastinate. It is not as if I am having to teach the client how to build this process. Afterall, the client has set a goal of coming to see me and has managed to achieve this goal successfully. The very fact the client is sitting with me in a session is confirmation the client can successfully not run procrastination. Rather, it is the reasons that sit behind the clients choice of process that I will work on with the client - as there is a process around good and bad choices the client is running.

Do I run Anxiety

Because of anxiety mirroring physical illness symptoms, people who run anxiety can often mistake their disorder for a medical illness*. They may visit many doctors and make numerous trips to the hospital before their anxiety disorder is finally recognised. Many people running anxiety also suffer from depression at some point. Anxiety and depression are believed to stem from the same biological vulnerability, which may explain why they so often go hand-in-hand. Since depression makes anxiety worse (and vice versa), it’s important to seek treatment for both conditions.

How to set Boundaries in our life (Step 1)

Recognising and being authentic to yourself is the first step required for setting boundaries and expectations in your life. I often hear people argue that the secret to building confidence and self-esteem is to simply implement boundaries and expectations and enforce these. However, I would argue that if we are living a life which is in-authentic then we are essentially living a life out of alignment with ourselves and / or are not honouring nor respecting our authentic self.

Common Behaviours/Outcomes from Experiencing Gaslighting

As a Strategic Hypnotherapist I am looking for the missing distinctions which sit within you that you no longer have which have been diminished and / or eroded by the gaslighter. I am going after something far greater than just your trauma. I understand you are your own individual and have different worries to others who run trauma responses. I will work on your specific triggers and sensitivities whilst building your resilience, confidence, and motivation (the 3 Pillars) and providing you with the tools required to build strong boundaries you can live with that build your self confidence, self worth and hence self belief.

What does Trauma or PTSD looks like?

As a Strategic Hypnotherapist I am looking for the linkages which sit within you that created the need for you to see risk and to catastrophise. I am going after something far greater than just your trauma. I understand you are your own individual and have different worries to others who run trauma responses. I will work on your specific triggers and sensitivities whilst building your resilience, confidence, and motivation (the 3 Pillars) and providing you with the tools required to manage the uncertainties in life without having your threat response initiated through your fight, flight, freeze, submit or attach response.

Why do we Procrastinate?

Procrastination creates a cycle that’s difficult to escape, because the temporary reward of putting something off reinforces your desire to do it again — even though it creates more problems. A procrastination habit can eventually complicate the emotional concerns that triggered it in the first place.

What is Anger?

As a Strategic Hypnotherapist I am looking to identify which of the 7 experiential gaps (which guide me in my strategic psychotherapy) that sit behind your anger. I am also interested to identify the comorbidities which sit behind your anger you are running. These are typically going to be anxiety, addictions (for relaxation), a raging internal dialogue and a tendency to take things personally. There may also be a high need for control, extreme self-referencing, and dichotomous thinking (black & white thinking).

Framing your anger through the Gordian Pillars™ will enable me to support you in identifying the inner tools and resources you perhaps aren’t utilising in your life and transition you to a place where you are able to engage your inner strengths in more functional and productive behaviour

Why are Boundaries so important?

All Boundaries should align with our authentic selves. However, when a boundary is crossed it disrespects and dishonours our authentic self. This is when we find our self-confidence, self-belief and self-worth diminished and is why it might feel ‘wrong’.

What is Gaslighting?

Gaslighting works by repeated manipulation breaking down your trust in yourself while increasing how much you trust or depend on the perpetrator/s. Like other forms of psychological abuse, the effects of gaslighting can continue long after you have ended the relationship with the person responsible. Some of the long-term effects of gaslighting can be anxiety, depression, increased feelings of self-doubt, trauma and even PTSD.

What does Procrastination looks like?

Procrastination is a way of coping with challenging emotions and negative moods brought on by certain tasks such as boredom, anxiety, insecurity, frustration, resentment, and self-doubt. Importantly, procrastination is an emotion regulation problem, not a time management problem. Research suggests that procrastination often relates to your mood and emotional mindset as well as your struggle with self-control. It is about being more focused on the critical task of managing potentially negative thoughts and emotions than getting on with the task at hand

Happiness vs Fulfilment

How many people say they ‘just want to be happy’. Have you ever stopped to think what ‘being happy means? Afterall, happiness is an emotion – it is not a ‘thing’ you can obtain or can set a goal to. Happiness comes from ‘what’ we are doing i.e., we may be happy yet feel empty. It is a goal we seek in most activities, actions, and behaviours we undertake. Interestingly, happiness can be taken off us at any moment, whereas fulfilment cannot.

What is Anxiety and how do I reduce it?

Rather than focusing on removing the symptoms of your anxiety (calming the mind and focusing on the present), Strategic Hypnotherapy is more concerned with working with the ongoing cause of your anxiety. Our primary focus is on teaching you how to not run anxiety in the first place rather than focusing on what to do with your anxiety once you get it. ........it just makes sense.......

What is Hypnotherapy?

I would define hypnosis as being ‘an altered waking state of awareness/consciousness, in which a person’s attention is detached from their immediate environment and is absorbed by inner experiences such as feelings, memories, cognition and imagery’.

What is Strategic Psychotherapy?

In Strategic Psychotherapy we are interested in, - and will focus on, HOW you are 'doing' your behaviour - not why. We also understand that you are not broken, - simply that you are running an old pattern which you have outgrown and which no longer serves you functionally anymore.
