My Clinical Hypnotherapy & Strategic Psychotherapy sessions are focused on your development as an individual, including personal and therapeutic issues associated with sports performance. I typically assist athletes with improving sports performance, reducing stress and anxiety, overcoming fear of failure and success, and burn-out. I also address interpersonal issues such as family and marital difficulty. 

 

In addition, some further areas I work in and develop your skills in are problem prevention, coping skills, relaxation training, decision-making, life management and career planning, therapeutic strategies, and crisis intervention.

Interestingly, I have also found ineffective attempts to deal with stress by the athlete can result in the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Timely assessments and treatment by me can provide athletes with therapeutic support around substance abuse treatment and other addictions

WHY USE STRATEGIC HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnosis is a technique of communication using psychological suggestions. Under hypnosis, the hypnotized person is more open to suggestions. The result of hypnosis is that you will gain greater control over your mind and your actions.

Clinical Hypnotherapy and Strategic Psychotherapy restructures your cognitive processing that is essential for your athletic performance, including self-confidence, attention, and memory. The enhanced positive self-affirmations and rational-emotive strategies are commonly reached through the use of hypnosis. Athletes may take advantage of this state to enhance and tap into the potentials of their physical conditions.

The reality is - that as an athlete you are currently intermittingly running ‘positive functional processes’ that have improved your performance in specific parts of your athletic life. It is just that this process also has ‘faulty dysfunctional process’ in between it, which you also run in alignment with the ‘positive functional process’. This is why you see fluctuations in your levels of sporting performance. Strategic Hypnotherapy will assist you in bringing the ‘positive functional processes’ aspect of your performance into focus whilst diminishing / removing the ‘faulty dysfunctional process’ aspects of your performance.

As your Clinical Hypnotherapist & Strategic Psychotherapist I will place particular emphasis on imagining skills training with you in order to assist you to build on your strengths, eliminate your weaknesses, develop your sports skills, as well as supporting you to stay confident, focused, and motivated.

I will encourage you - as an athlete - to imagine the critical event(s) in your training and identify with the performance as much as possible. I will enable you to be able to note everything influencing you, you thoughts, your physical experiences, your competitors, and other significant things. This process can help you become aware of aspects of your performance experience that are unnoticed, and this can lead to the discovery of key information.

Moreover, it is evidenced that hypnosis can enhance your imagining skills’ quality on self-efficacy, skill acquisition, and athletic performance. Due to the relaxed state that are in when you are hypnotized, the results of imagining skills training are better than that of training in a waking state, which can help you gain and improve your individual technique more efficiently.

As your Sports performance Hypnotherapist & Strategic Psychotherapist, I will work with you to teach you the skills of visualising successfully completing a certain action in a sporting activity. This gives the athlete confidence to complete the manoeuvre as well as prepare the athlete’s body for the actual manoeuvre.

I will provide a model for you so you can focus in the job you do, and support you to build a career for proficiency and self-actualisation. Typically, fear of failure, anxiety and lack of confidence are some of the issues athletes face on the field, and inconsistency in performance and social withdrawal is strongly recognised as issues that may require the attention through my practice.

Of further concern is that Athletes' career decisions are often postponed due to the intense level of commitment required by their sports participation. As your Sports performance therapist, I use interventions that focus on your future development post your sporting career.
