Hypnotherapy

Modern Hypnotherapy (Erickson Hypnotherapy)

I use Modern Hypnotherapy within my practice. I provide the option of receiving Hypnotherapy via either a clinical, or an online sessions.

Modern Hypnotherapy differs from the older, more traditional model of Hypnotherapy by being tailored specifically to you ’the client’, and hence tends to have better outcomes. Modern Hypnotherapy is used in the therapeutic space and releases control to you (as the client), empowering you to choose to go into a trance, and once in trance to make the changes you choose to make in your life. In contrast to Traditional Hypnotherapy where the practitioner is in control, the Hypnotherapist within Modern Hypnotherapy is just the guide.

How can Modern Hypnotherapy help me?

Modern Hypnotherapy is used to challenge and overcome concerns such as:

  • Dependencies & bad habit, - such as Smoking, Vaping, Drinking , Pornography, Eating, Gambling, Shopping, Risky Behaviour, Video Games, Sex, Internet, Work, Exercise, Cutting, Spiritual Obsession, etc

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Procrastination

  • Low Self Esteem

  • Phobias

  • Anger

  • Insomnia

  • Post-Traumatic Stress

  • Obsessive & Compulsive Behaviours

  • Post-natal Depression

  • Psycho-somatic pain

Is modern hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis

Despite what you may believe with Stage Hypnosis, when you are in a trance you are totally in control. Remember that Stage Hypnosis is entertainment, and the Hypnotist might attempt to Hypnotise up to 100 people prior to finding the 6 or so who will eventually end up on stage. And these 6 will have identified to the Hypnotist prior to the event as being open to their particular Hypnotic suggestions. Stage Hypnotists also use Traditional Hypnotherapy, which is read from a script, is directive, and is practitioner driven – rather than being client controlled.

Am I in control?

As mentioned above, with Hypnotherapy we can’t make you do something you don’t want to do, and we can’t make you change something you don’t want to change. With Modern Hypnotherapy, you are in control and hence are empowered throughout the Hypnotherapeutic session. So, if you attend Hypnotherapy wanting to stop smoking when you don’t want to stop smoking for example, then it is highly unlikely the session will be successful.

What does hypnotic trance feel like?

Most people feel very relaxed.  It is sort of an ‘in between’ state between being sleep and being awake when the brain waves start to slow down. One of the common myths about the hypnotic state, or trance, is that it can only be entered into under the control of a hypnotist. We see many examples of the trance state in everyday life;

  • Daydreaming – where you find yourself staring out a window, lost in the reveries of a favourite memory

  • Reading a book – where you become so engrossed in a book that you don’t hear someone walking into the room, or become so attached to the story that you care deeply about the impact of plotlines on fictional characters

  • Watching a movie – where you jump in fright to avoid an on-screen danger, even though there is no real-world danger to you from what is happening on screen

  • Driving – where you arrive at the destination on a route you regularly travel, only to realise you can’t remember any details of what happened during the trip

  • Using the internet – and suddenly hours have gone by.

These examples illustrate your incredible ability to be able to transport your mind to different states when you are open to the possibility and have sufficient motivation. It also highlights that everyone experiences the trance state differently

 Book An Appointment

Choosing the right clinical hypnotherapist is an important process and I understand that it is not always easy to begin looking for help and support. You are welcome to book a free 15 minute telephone consultation to help give you the chance to see if you feel comfortable with me and the way that I work, and to discuss how counselling may benefit you.

You can ask any questions you have and together we can decide whether mine is the best clinical hypnotherapy service for you. There is no obligation or commitment needed to attend any further sessions.
